A beautiful spring

This has been an amazing year for spring flowers.  We were blessed with lots of late winder and early spring rain and I’ve never seen more color at the ranch and all over the Texas Hill Country.

We’re about to the end of the season, it’s getting hot and beginning to dry up as Texas does in the summer, so we’ll begin mowing soon to reduce fire danger.  As we do, we’ll be seeding flowers for next spring so let’s keep our fingers crossed for another great year.

Busy in the garden

After a busy couple of days hosting visitors Gay and Jane Crisan spent most of Sunday working the Double Heart Ranch garden.  Potatoes, carrots, peppers, tomatoes and a huge fresh garlic that they baked for dinner.  Gardening was only briefly interrupted to help haul hay.

Plums are wonderful.

Llano Parade

We where proud to step off this morning in the Llano, Texas Rodeo Parade.  Joining us was a team of executives from Microsoft and our Managing Directors from New York and San Francisco.

Beautiful morning and a great parade.  A special thanks for official greetings from County Judge Wayne Brascom and Jannelle Grey.  They made our guests feel most welcome.

May and Belle performed perfectly and we won 3rd Place in the parade.

Roping at John Simmon’s

We had clients and members of our management team in from all over the country this weekend and our neighbor, John Simmons, was kind enough to invite everyone over for a friendly roping event last night.

The company was good and the light perfect.  Above it a wonderful shot of one of the Quarter Horses getting in position to run a calf.

John provided roping lessons for Lisa and Ian.  Lisa did way better.

MoCo!

Our old hay cutter finally played out so we purchased a new John Deere MoCo.  This thing sounds like a 747 when it gets going.  State of the art cutting and conditioning and at amazing speeds.  Rides like a high dollar German sports car.

Turn on the radio, turn up the volume, crank down the a/c and cut some hay!

Miss Quixote’s Legacy

We are pleased to introduce Miss Quixote’s Legacy.  The Double Heart Ranch provided retirement for her famous great grandmother, Miss Quixote Especial, one of the legends of the breed, and mother to BL Night Chex.  This outstanding heifer is out of one of our herd sires, Scorpio, owned in partnership with Mike Bowman’s End of Trail Ranch.  This little heifer has a pedigree like a southern debutante, from Boomerang to Heavy Hitter.

Born March 27, 2010

Snow!

Rare occurrence for us in Central Texas – snow that sticks.  Cold February day.  Hardy took this picture from the ranch house.
